Viola Davis, is the first black actor to achieve the Triple Crown of Acting having won an Academy Award, Emmy Award, and two Tony Awards. We know her for her role as Annalise Keating in How to Get Away with Murder, for which she became the first black woman to win the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series.
Davis, the youngest of 6, was born in South Carolina and later moved to Central Falls Rhode Island. She described herself as having lived in abject poverty and dysfunction during her childhood, .recalling living in rat-infested and condemned apartments. Her mother was a civil rights activist and both she and her mom were arrested and taken to jail during a civil rights protest.
Central Falls High School, in Rhode Island, is where Ms. Davis fell in love with acting and became heavily involved in theater arts. After High school Davis attended Rhode Island College as a Theater Major, then off to Julliard School for four years in their Drama Division "Group 22".
