“Our ability to reach unity in diversity will be the beauty and the test of our civilization.”

~Mahatma Gandhi

How does the quote above resonate with you?

Pause here for a moment and free yourself from distractions:

Take a deep breath in... exhale slowly... deep breath in... exhale slowly... deep breath in... exhale slowly... calm your mind and be present...

Unity in diversity...

If you had to evaluate your organization or place of work on unity in diversity, what grade would you give?

...Think about it for a moment...

Have you ever been in a meeting, later discussed the key points of the meeting with a colleague and they heard something completely different than you did..?

Have you attended a group meeting and someone tells an inappropriate joke, at your expense, and you sat through the laughter because you were afraid to speak up..?

...and no one else appeared to be uncomfortable with the joke...

Have you ever been the only, woman, man, person of color, LBGTQ, or other, in an organization and felt invisible?

...the only one yet no one sees you...

How important is diversity and inclusion to the culture of your work environment?

is it... why or why not....

3 Reasons Why Diversity and Inclusion are Essential to the Workplace:

(adp.com, Sponsored by SPARK: Helping ignite the power of your power of your people)

1. Employee Engagement: If you want workers to be excited about any activity involved in where they work, a strong diversity and inclusion program can instill a passion that's contagious and shared throughout the company.

In what ways has your organization embraced diversity, inclusivity, and cultural sensitivity?

2. Company Confidence: The importance of having a culture that embraces diversity and inclusion plays a huge role in the overarching confidence of the company. This allows for a larger platform for innovation, creativity, and a variety of perspectives that leave your employees feeling like they are in a safe place to be themselves and produce their best work.

How can your organization improve its culture and ensure its practices, training, development, and overall strategy, are equitable and inclusive for all team members?

3. Attracting Talent: Diversity and inclusion programs build up their people from the inside out, and foster an environment that is more attractive for prospective employees. A higher caliber of professionals will want to join a company that strives to improve a provide a comfortable, supportive, and inspiring atmosphere where people of different ethnicities, genders and sexual orientations can flourish.

How can your organization improve its diversity and inclusion program in order to attract talent and build a team that is a better representation of a global community?

"Inclucivity means not only that we are allowed to be there, but that we are valued, we have a voice... Smart teams will do amazing things, but truly diverse teams will do impossible things."

Something to think about... I challenge you to start the conversation. Don’t miss your opportunity! Be intentional, encourage others to do the same and watch what happens.

You got this!
