“Control is a tough mistress. Better to lose her and find your sense of abandon and joy instead.”

-Gay Hendricks

How do the words above resonate with you?

Pause here and free yourself from distractions:

Take a deep breath in... exhale slowly... deep breath in... exhale slowly... deep breath in... exhale slowly... calm your mind and be present...

How do you know you’ve got everything under control? Please formulate an answer before reading any further...

under control: (merriam-webster.com)

able to be handled or managed with success : not out of control

Here is Iyanla Vanzant's perspective on control;

We really are not in control of the universe; it is so much bigger than we are.
Our ego tells us to take control of our time, but what we really do is create confusion and stress.

Think about the man situations you arrived on time and had to wait. As the minutes passed your level of frustration... or perhaps anger, continued to rise...

Or, you are working on a project that requires information from others whose timeline is clearly not the same as yours. As you wait, your anxiety builds... you want to meet and prefer to beat your personal timeline...

Would you characterize yourself as a control freak? be honest with yourself...

control freak: (merriam-webster.com)

a person whose behavior indicates a powerful need to control people or circumstances in everyday matters.

Gay Hendricks explains being under control this way:

You are in fact under it, and your job is to shake it off, emerge out into life where the unpredictable, the awful, the magnificent happens, humbling you and encouraging you to let go of your attempts at controlling the universe.

I believe everything happens for a reason, in its own time, at exactly the right time. Everyone's journey is different, Life happens, as unpredictable as it may be, to teach us lessons along the way.

Today’s Challenge: (from Gay Hendricks, A Year of Living Consciously)

  • Identify an area in your life where rigid control is not serving you well.

  • Use affirmation to let go at three (3) different levels:

1. Mind: I recognize with my logical self that the universe has its reasons.

2. Heart: I recognize with my emotional self that the universe has its reasons

3. Body: I recognize with my physical self that the universe has its reasons.

Reminder from Iyanla Vanzant: I have time to take my time.

“Success is a journey, not a destination”. -Ben Sweetland

You have all the time you need. Now, what do you want to do with it?

Don’t miss your opportunity. Be intentional. Encourage others to do the same and watch what happens.

You got this!
