"Reality is created by the mind, we can change our reality by changing our mind." --Plato
How do the words above resonate with you?
Pause here for a moment and free yourself from distractions:
Take a deep breath in... exhale slowly... deep breath in... exhale slowly... deep breath in... exhale slowly... calm your mind and be present...
As an elementary teacher it was clear to me and supported by research that all children can learn and we must continue to expect the best from them to foster the success in each student...
What has changed?
I believe the concept applies to humans of all ages. Reading Maxwell’s Leadership Promises for Every Day confirms this basic concept remains relevant today:
We usually see in others what we expect to see.
What do you expect from others? Think about that for a moment...
People generally rise to meet our level of expectations.
Are your expectations reflective of your reality? Ahhh... sit here for a moment...
See them as a “10.”
Consider making a shift. Your mind is a powerful thing. Here are six reasons why from Nathan Burriston in his article found on (medium.com )
6 Big Reasons You Should Only See The Best In Others
1. The ‘Bad’ doesn’t exist: Every single person is born with the potential to be good. If that potential isn’t nurtured, what remains is the absence of good. Focus on what they have, not what they lack. Even if you have to search.
2. You can’t hate them: It’s just not worth it. Have positive thoughts instead. No matter how rotten someone is, they will always have some good in them. Look for it, find it, and ignore the rest. Have positive feelings towards people. You will be happier because you see the good.
3. You spend more time on yourself: When you see the best in others, you can only win. If they are better than you at something, you become inspired and look to them as an example. The truth is, most of us feel good about being a few levels ahead of others, ignoring the fact that there’s still a long way for us to go too. When we look for the best in others, we are reminded of how far we have left to go.
4. You make everyone feel good around you: When you only see the best in others, that energy turns into a real positive vibe. The people you interact with will feel it. They’ll associate being with you to being loved and appreciated. This is great not only in your social life but in your everyday interactions. Seeing the good in others results in genuine appreciation for everyone you meet. You’ll naturally smile and thank people. And they’ll appreciate you too.
5. You become so much happier: Sometimes we are oblivious to a person’s good qualities. But if we make it a habit to search for them, we’ll suddenly start to see the good in everyone. Turning this into a habit makes us happier. If our entire life is filled with positive interactions there’s no way we don’t become significantly happier. Seeing only good makes us feel confident and so much more positive in life.
6. You can change someone’s life: How powerful is it when someone believes in you when you don’t even believe in yourself? When you aren’t the best and someone lets you know they see some light in you, your whole reality changes. Great leaders inspire change. They see potential where others see shortcomings. We are all be leaders. We can all look for the good where others see none.
"Once you replace negative thoughts with positive ones, you'll start having positive results." _Willie Nelson
What would happen if we make the decision to expect the the best and actually look for the good in everyone? Now, what’s your plan... what are you willing to do..?
Don’t miss your opportunity. Be intentional. Encourage others to do the same and watch what happens.
You got this!
