“Typical reaction to scrutiny: attack and mock messenger and message, minimize the problem, hope attention dies down.”
-Anat R Admati
How do the words above resonate with you?
Pause here for a moment and free yourself from distractions:
Take a deep breath in... exhale slowly... deep breath in... exhale slowly... deep breath in... exhale slowly... calm your mind and be present...
Where are my courageous messengers?
messenger /noun/:
a person who carries a message or is employed to carry messages.
Being a messenger, if you take the job seriously, not only takes courage to share the truth, but a thick skin, a strong mind and the pure audacity to persevere. Regardless of how ones message is perceived.
Iyanla Vanzant made a statement that resonated with me:
-When you are given a message, an insight, a revelation, your only responsibility is to deliver what you have been given.
-If you judge the correctness, accuracy or power of your message based on how it is received, you will miss the point.
-Once you, the messenger, misses the point, the message is lost.
Leaders, messenger is part of your job description. I challenge you to reflect on these questions. Spend some time with each of them:
What are you pretending not to see? Think about that for a moment...
How are you showing up? are you speaking up, providing feedback..?
What message is your leadership sending? how do you know..?
“I try to be a truthful artist, and try to show a level of courage. I enjoy that. I am a messenger.” -Jeff Koons
What are you willing to do? What area of your leadership needs a closer look..?
Don’t miss your opportunity. Be intentional. Encourage others to do the same and watch what happens.
You got this!
