“We do not see things as they are. We see them as we are.”

-The Talmud

How do the words above resonate with you?

Pause here for a moment and free yourself from distractions:

Take a deep breath in... exhale slowly... deep breath in... exhale slowly... deep breath in... exhale slowly... calm your mind and be present...

What do you see? your view...

How are you showing up? your behavior... reactions as you interact...

Perhaps as better question is: How are you feeling today..?

Gay Hendricks shares in his book, A year of Living Consciously, something we may not often think about or even realize we do regularly. but certainly we can relate to. We project.

project /verb/:

present or promote (a particular view or image).

-present (someone or something) in a way intended to create a favorable impression.

-display (an emotion or quality) in one's behavior.

-transfer or attribute one's own emotion or desire to (another person), especially unconsciously.

To understand how projection works, Hendricks uses the analogy of a movie projector:

Think of a movie projecting a picture on the big screen fifty feet away. A fly crawls across the surface of the projector’s light. You see the magnified version of the fly on the screen.

Now, think of the fly as your mood.

Some small mood-shift will occur inside you, for whatever reason, your consciousness causes you to see the events of life differently.

What are you projecting? Think about that for a moment...

Today’s Challenge: Begin to develop a facility for noticing when you are projecting and the affect this may be having in your life.

  • Every hour pause for a few seconds and ask yourself:

  • How is my mood affecting how I see the present situation?

  • Once awareness and connections are made, it’s time to consider that things may not actually be how they seem.

As you continue this practice throughout the day, you will become better at understanding how projection works and make a positive shift in the way you view the world around you.

What are you willing to do?

Don’t miss your opportunity. Be intentional. Encourage others to do the same and watch what happens.

You got this!
