Wednesday's Wisdom

Tavia Robinson

“The belief in a hereafter paved with gold is no reason to live in poverty now.”

-Iyanla Vanzant

How do the words above resonate with you?

Pause here for a moment and free yourself from distractions:

Take a deep breath in... exhale slowly... deep breath in... exhale slowly... deep breath in... exhale slowly... calm your mind and be present...

What excuses have you made for not being where you want to be in life? Think about that for a moment... what have you been telling yourself...

Reading the book, Acts of Faith: Daily Meditations for People of Color inspired today’s message. Iyanla Vanzant states:

If heaven is a place prepared for kings and queens, we want to do our work on earth so we we won’t show up looking and acting like paupers.

How do you want to show up? What are you doing... How prepared are you..?

“Hold yourself responsible for a higher standard than anyone else

expects of you. Never excuse yourself.”

-Henry Ward Beecher

3 Steps to Manifest Your Goals In Life—Yes, It Really Does Work

by Lydia Sweatt, Attacking the Present with James Whittaker

1. Visualize your success before it happens: When you imagine your life in the next five years, what do you see?

  • Visualize the rich relationships and the type of lifestyle you want to have.

  • Save that mental movie. Keep it within the depths of your brain so you can watch the replay every day.

  • When you feel anxious or overwhelmed, just breathe. Press play on your imagined memory to rediscover what’s fueling your passion.

2. Create a success plan by writing down your goals: Put your goals in a journal. Words on paper can become a list, and lists can be completed.

  • Once a year, ask yourself: Who am I?, and Where do I want to go?

  • Figure out what the end goal looks like.

  • Turn those into action items: Develop a 90 day plan

  • Put them in your calendar

  • Every 90 days, repeat the process.

3. Embrace the magic of daily routines: A routine creates the momentum you need to reach small, immediate goals. Focus on the way you begin each day. Avoid emails and the internet in general. All we’re doing in that moment is reacting to someone else’s agenda for our time. Instead, flip the script. Here’s what James Whittaker suggests:

1. Save any creative work for your peak productivity window.

2. Do your life’s work before your busy work.

3. Acknowledge that each day is here to be won.

4. Write down three things you’re going to do to win the day.

5. Put yourself in some kind of adversity. Have a cold shower, do a quick workout or something else to challenge your mind.

6. Set boundaries. Share your “do not disturb” hours with co-workers and family.

7. Reach out to people and see if they need help. Eventually, they will reciprocate.

No more excuses!

“It is wrong and immoral to seek to escape the consequences of one’s acts.”

―Mahatma Gandhi

Today’s Challenge: from Iyanla Vanzant’s Acts of Faith

Ask yourself the following questions:

  • What do you dream of doing, being, or having?

  • What are you doing today to manifest your vision?

  • Develop a 90 day plan.

N0w do the work!

What are you willing to do? Your choice... Choose wisely...

Don’t miss your opportunity! Be intentional, encourage others to do the same and watch what happens.

You got this!
