“The holiday season is a perfect time to reflect on our blessings and seek out ways to make life better for those around us.”

-Anonymous

How do the words above resonate with you?

Pause here and free yourself from distractions:

Take a deep breath in... exhale slowly... deep breath in... exhale slowly... deep breath in... exhale slowly... calm your mind and be present...

Tis the season... Holiday time, compounded by a global pandemic, can bring out he beast in many of us.

Recall a recent time you lost your temper. Where were you... What happened... Who was present... How did you feel? Stay right here until you have answered all parts of this reflection...

In all the madness, no matter how right or wrong you or your target was in the situation, I can bet, the negative energy stuck around longer than it needed to, and the audience had the privilege of sharing in the moment... perhaps not one of your proudest.

How did you make life better for those present in your (above) reflection moment? Be honest with yourself...

I challenge you to intentionally work toward a better you. We are all human. Don't beat yourself up. Turning it around may be easier than you think.

7 Simple Things We Can Do... to make life easier for each other

1. Give More Compliments: Make the people around you feel good about themselves and remind them how wonderful they really are. They will gain more confidence in their abilities and you will help them increase their self-esteem. Encourage them to follow their dreams and help them see how amazing they really are.

2. Have More Patients: Have more patience, especially when you are waiting in line. Complaining won’t make things go faster. Have a little more patience and think about other people’s feelings too!

3. Don’t Be Mean: Even if someone did something that upset you, show them you are a mature and responsible adult and behave in a more assertive manner. Tell them politely how their actions affected you and don’t allow them to ruin your day.

4. Be kind to people who work in retail: For some reason, people are more inclined to be rude with the people who work in retail and food industries. It’s not so easy to work in this field. You have a lot of things to take care of, you don’t earn much money, you work long hours and you deal with all kind of rude comments every day, even if you are not to blame. #Bekindalways

5. Smile: Always put a big smile on your face, even if you don’t feel like it . You won’t only brighten up your day, but you will make other people feel better as well.

6. Listen to what others tell you: There is a big difference between hearing and listening. Show interest for what people are telling you, ask questions and clarify any possible misunderstanding. Most of the time, people just need someone to listen to them, to accept them just the way they are and to not try to change them.

7. Express Gratitude: Show other people that you appreciate their help, even if what they did wasn’t such a big thing. Use please and thank you more often and bring joy to other people’s lives. You can really brighten up someone’s day by being more polite.

“Cheers to a new year and another chance for us to get it right.” –Oprah Winfrey

Now, what are you willing to do?

Don’t miss your opportunity. Be intentional. Encourage others to do the same and watch what happens.

You got this!
