“Examine what is said and not who speaks.”
– African proverb
How do the words above resonate with you?
Pause here for a moment and free yourself from distractions:
Take a deep breath in... exhale slowly... deep breath in... exhale slowly... deep breath in... exhale slowly... calm your mind and be present...
Reread the quote above...
How tough is it for you to examine what is said, without considering the source?
...Easy... difficult... or impossible... be honest with yourself...
The more a read this quote the fuzzier it’s meaning became... more variables and scenarios came into play:
Who said it?
Where did it happen?
Who was there?
What was their intention?
Did it come from a man or woman?
All of which went through my head before I even considered what was said:
Was it positive or negative?
Personal or work related?
True, or an assumption?
Why does any of it matter, anyway?
Think about that for a moment....
Gay Hendricks summed it up with this question:
Hasn’t your success and happiness grown hand and hand with your ability to receive feedback?
feedback | noun information about reactions to a product, a person's performance of a task, etc. which is used as a basis for improvement.
**Feedback is about listening actively, taking the time to analyze, and then thinking of the best possible solution to perform better. It provides positive criticism and allows to see what everyone can change to improve their focus and results. It brings people together and creates a healthy communication flow.
Remember, your point of power is always in the present moment. Look for the hidden opportunities.
How open to feedback are you?
“What is the shortest word in the English language that contains the letters: abcdef? Answer: feedback. Don’t forget that feedback is one of the essential elements of good communication.” – Anonymous
Today’s Challenge: Personal Commitment to Feedback
1. Be present and open to feedback. Start your day with this affirmation:
I commit to receiving feedback with gratitude and enthusiasm.
2. As your ability to receive feedback grows, deepen your commitment:
I commit to going out each day in search of meaningful feedback.
Honor yourself... Continue to grow... Be present and open... It's all good.
Don’t miss your opportunity! Be intentional, encourage others to do the same and watch what happens.
You got this!
