Tuesday's Talk

Coach Tavia

“Doing the best at this moment puts you in the best place for the next moment.”

— Oprah Winfrey

How do the words above resonate with you?

Pause here for a moment and free yourself from distractions: ...Take a deep breath in...  exhale slowly...  deep breath in...  exhale slowly...  deep breath in...  exhale slowly...  calm your mind and be present...

What does doing your best look like? Think about that for a moment...   If you had no limitations of any kind... in this very moment, what would your absolute best look like..? ...Hard for you to imagine....? In these stressful times, giving your best is not easy.  The issues of racism, racial oppression, and inequality  are hard to swallow and difficult to talk about. I was reminded while reading this morning two things:

“Injustice never rules forever.”  -Seneca

I feel the energy of change in the air...   When things get difficult we must also remember, nothing is impossible:

“Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they’ve been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It’s an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It’s a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.”

—Muhammad Ali

Gay Hendricks,  teaches us that everything important in life comes down to ten-second windows of opportunity where you move froward or stay put.  Those moments are important and powerful, especially when we are in the presence of a particular feeling.* If we are to set ourselves up for success, and give our best in those moments, we have to be in tune with those feelings. Many of us are angry. Anger is most often triggered by an instance of unfairness.*

How do you respond when you are angry? ...give that honest thought...

  • *Do you express your feelings, tell the person you’re angry, explain why you’re angry..?

  • *Do you stew, hold it in, harbor those feelings and end up with a headache or upset stomach...?

*Next time you are angry or in the presence of someone experiencing anger, ask yourself:

  • What will it take for me to execute successfully in this moment?

  • Is there something I can say or do to keep the anger from lodging in my body?

  • Is there a better response I can make?

Today's Challenge: Don't miss your opportunity to look out for those moments,

  • Intentionally seek those 10 second windows of opportunity that could change the course of your day and ultimately change the course of your life in a positive direction.

  • Before your respond, ask yourself: What will it take for me to move forward and execute successfully in this moment?

  • Give each moment the absolute best that you've got!

“All around the country people are effecting real change with small actions...

Change that improves the lives of people of color in towns and cities and weakens an oppressive system.

Racial oppression starts in our homes, our offices, our cities, and our states,

and it can end there as well...

So we start talking, not just problems, but solutions.

We can do this, together.”

-Ijeoma Oluo

What are you willing to do to put an end to systemic racial oppression infecting this world we live in? Give it your best... the absolute best that you've got! Don’t miss your opportunity.  Be intentional, encourage others to do the same and watch what happens. You got this! Coach Tavia
