Tuesday's Talk

Coach Tavia

“The things that matter most must never be at the mercy of the things that matter least.”

-Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

How do the words above resonate with you?

Pause here for a moment and free yourself from distractions:

Take a deep breath in... exhale slowly... deep breath in... exhale slowly... deep breath in... exhale slowly... calm your mind and be present...

If we don't have time to do the things that matter most to us, than we must stop doing the things that don't. A quote from Alistair Cox, Chief Executive at Hays, sums up this point well: "Being busy has almost become our identity... we think the busier we are, the more impressive we seem... it's a story we tell ourselves every day. Now is the time we change all that."

Ask yourself:

What matters most in my life?

  • Let your mind and body answer freely

  • You might not like the answers you get, but it's better to give even the unpopular response a good listen

*(From A Year of Living Consciously, Gay Hendricks)

Think about it... spend some time with this question...

When you are clear about what matters most to you, and the things you are passionate about, you are better equipped to follow your dreams and build your life around what matters most to you.

5 Steps that will help you clear away the clutter and discover your dream(s):

-John C. Maxwell, Leadership Promises for Every Day

1. Believe in your ability to succeed: You must believe that you can succeed if you are to succeed.

Affirmation(s):

  • I believe I can do anything.

  • My ability to conquer my challenges is limitless; My potential to succeed is infinite.

2. Get rid of your pride: People full of themselves don't have much room left over for a life-changing dream.

Tip: Show your humanity in humility. Allow yourself to be vulnerable, know your weaknesses and accept them. That's where the magic happens... #authenticityissexy

3. Cultivate constructive discontent: Discontent can be a driving force. Complacency never brings success.

Question(s):

  • What are you not satisfied with?

  • What is the opportunity here?

  • What is the challenge?

  • If you could do it over again, what would you do differently?

  • If you could do anything you wanted, what would you do?

4. Escape from habit: Don't accept what is without considering what could be.

Question(s):

  • What is the dream?

  • What are the possibilities?

  • What options can you create?

5. Balance creativity with character: Have enough creativity to think it out, and enough character to try it out.

Design a challenge for yourself that takes your breath away.

  • Save the excuses. It’s not about having the time; it’s about making the time.

  • Make sure it is in alignment with your values and what matters most to you

  • Ask and answer the question, "Why bother?" with every new action.

  • Visualize what success looks like.

"Create time and space to listen to your heart and soul. Then you’ll know what matters most."

You got this!
