“Do or do not. There is no try,”

-Yoda, Star Wars Jedi Master

How do Yoda’s words resonate with you?

Pause here for a moment and free yourself from distractions:

...Take a deep breath in... exhale slowly... deep breath in... exhale slowly... deep breath in... exhale slowly... calm your mind and be present...

Although a fictional character, I found the word of the Jedi Master to be insightful...

How many times have you responded with the words, “I’ll try”?

...think about that for a moment...

An article on Inc.com reminds us that when one leads with thoughts like “I’ll try”, it lays the foundation for being unsuccessful from the beginning, giving yourself a way out. I'm certain that being unsuccessful is not something that most of us aspire to...

This is a passionate reminder that life rewards those who let their actions rise above their excuses.

How will you ensure your actions will rise above your excuses?

...what can you do..?

If you are not achieving the results your want, coachingpositiveperfomance.com has some suggestions:

5 Tips to Help You Avoid Making Excuses:

1. Take responsibility:

Making excuses robs you of your personal power. Accept responsibility for your life and, learn to focus on the things which you can control, Always accept responsibility for the things you do and the things you fail to do. Even when events outside of your control occur, avoid making excuses. Identify the things which you can change to get a better result next time.  When you accept responsibility you take control of your life.

2. Focus on what matters:

Most excuses occur after the fact. Something has to go wrong before you point out that it’s not your responsibility. Avoid wasting valuable time on things that don't really matter. Simply identify the most important tasks and, focus on completing them. If you have time, you can focus on tasks of lesser importance later.

3. Consider life as a training ground:

When you regard life as a training ground, setbacks are painted in a new light. You realize that failure to achieve your goal provides an amazing opportunity to learn from your mistakes. When you implement what you learn, you achieve much better results. With this attitude, you begin to see failure as an essential part of your education in life.

Learning from your failures conditions you and makes you stronger.  This is both a way to get a mental edge and an absolute truth.  Adversity is a way to become smarter, stronger, more resilient, experienced and skilled.  Next time you experience a setback; seek out the lesson to be learned. 4. Remember the long term goal: Ultimately, it's your long term goals that are really important, Break your long term goals down into smaller ones so you can mark your achievements alone the way towards your ultimate goal. This way, you achieve your most important goals, step by step.  When you find the temptation to make excuses, think of your long term goals.  This helps clarify where you are and why you are doing the things you are doing. You can see the rewards that await you at the end of the journey.

5. Expect Challenges:

Challenges are an essential part of life which should be embraced, engaged and overcome as they allow you to grow as a person.  Whether you like it or not, you will face challenges along the way. Avoid making excuses and face your challenged head on. You will be more empowered, more confident, and more successful.

"Do or do not... There is no try". Your choice... No more excuses. Don't miss your opportunity. Start today!
