Thursday's Thoughts

Tavia Robinson

“Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one’s courage.”

-Anaïs Nin

How do the words above resonate with you?

Pause here for a moment and free yourself from distractions:

Take a deep breath in... exhale slowly... deep breath in... exhale slowly... deep breath in... exhale slowly... calm your mind and be present...

Psychologist, writer, and teacher in the field of personal growth and relationships, Gay Hendricks, speaks about courage and commitment in the book A Year of Living Consciously.

courage /noun/

mental or moral strength to venture, persevere, and withstand danger, fear, or difficulty (from merriam-webster.com)

Consider for a moment, your life, where you are today, where you thought you would be...

On a scale of 1 to 10, how courageous are you? This is specifically personal to you and your situation... Sit with the question and give it some thought...

commitment /noun/

an agreement or pledge to do something in the future

the state or an instance of being obligated or emotionally impelled

How successful have you been with honoring commitments to yourself? Reread this question... don't overthink...

Hendricks references the film As Good As It Gets, with Jack Nicholson, that challenges us think about self. I found his perspective interesting:

What if this is as good as it gets?
If the choice is to hold back, to “protect” oneself, loneliness and despair is as good as it gets.
If you make the choice of committing to full closeness, the possibilities are endless.

We are so use to committing and doing for others. It’s time to focus on self...

Today’s Affirmation: from Gay Hendricks, A year of Living Consciously:

I commit myself to full closeness and to clearing up anything within me that stands in the way.

Knowledge is power. It takes courage and commitment to push through.

Today’s Challenge: from Gay Hendricks, A year of Living Consciously:

Journal entry:

  1. Wonder, do not judge, do not doubt yourself today.

  2. Ask yourself "Why", reflect, discover,,

A reason that I put up barriers to closeness is..?

A way in which I put up barriers to closeness is..?

We can't can't what we don't acknowledge.

“Today I am devoted to eliminating those things about myself and my life that I have determined are unacceptable!” -Iyanla Vanzant

What are you willing to do?

Don’t miss your opportunity! Be intentional, encourage others to do the same and watch what happens.

You got this!
