“When we liberate ourselves from the expectation that we must have all things figured out, we enter a sanctuary of empathy.”
-Sonya Rene Taylor
How do the words above resonate with you?
Pause here for a moment and free yourself from distractions:
Take a deep breath in... exhale slowly... deep breath in... exhale slowly... deep breath in... exhale slowly... calm your mind and be present...
We do a fantastic job of pretending we don’t hear, see, or understand certain things. A deeper observation would require action...
What are you pretending not to see?
We get comfortable in our own little box, content with the crumbs thrown at us. The idea of wanting more drowning in fear of the less familiar unknown...
What are you missing that would improve the quality of your life?
The quote above deeply resonated with me. My experience taught me to always be prepared, anticipate what might go wrong, head off trouble and solve problems. I have been paid well to do so.
Fear can paralyze. When we don’t have it all figured out we often do nothing. Doing nothing gets us nowhere...
Reread the quote above.
In your own words, what is empathy?
empathy /noun/
the ability to understand and share the feelings of another.
What would change if you liberated yourself from the belief that in order to move forward you have to have everything figured out? Think about that for a moment...
Ask yourself:
How would my conversations change if I acknowledge I don't have a solution yet, but what I am clear about is this is unacceptable?
Today’s Challenge: Let’s change the game in our own mind.
Head a clean piece of paper with the following quote:
“Greater is that within me than the problems in the world.”
Identify 3 ways in which you are bigger than the challenges you face.
Write them down and post in a prominent place as a reminder.
Now, what’s your plan... what are you willing to do?
Don’t miss your opportunity. Be intentional. Encourage others to do the same and watch what happens.
You got this!
