Thursday's Thoughts

Tavia Robinson

“I will realize my own worth when I accept how I take care of myself is important.”

-Iyanla Vanzant

How do the words above resonate with you?

Pause here for a moment and free yourself from distractions:

Take a deep breath in... exhale slowly... deep breath in... exhale slowly... deep breath in... exhale slowly... calm your mind and be present...

How are you taking care of yourself?

Think about that for a moment. Self-care is a term we all hear, often use, but do we really believe we are worth it?

self-worth:

a sense of one's own value as a human being

the internal sense of being good enough and worthy of love and belonging from others. Self-worth is often confused with self-esteem, which relies on external factors such as successes and achievements to define worth and can often be inconsistent leading to someone struggling with feeling worthy.

If you’re willing to dive deeper into the concept of self-worth, think about these questions below that you may have asked yourself: (from Iyanla Vanzant’s Until Today)

  1. Why don’t I have a better diet?

  2. Why don’t I get more rest?

  3. Why don’t I spend more time doing the things that make me feel good?

  4. Why don’t I exercise more?

  5. Why don’t I work less?

  6. Why do I keep doing the things I say I am not going to do?

  7. Why do I wait until the last minute to do certain things?

  8. Why do I create so much stress and pressure for myself?

  9. Why do I say yes when I want to say no?

  10. Why do I stay in situations where I am dishonored or devalued?

  11. Why don’t I take time or make time for myself?

  12. Why don’t I express what I feel when I feel it?

  13. Why don’t I speak up for myself when I feel the need to do so?

  14. Why do I doubt myself?

  15. Why do I sabotage my dreams?

  16. Why do I abuse myself?

  17. Why do I feel taken advantage of?

  18. Why am I not earning what I believe I am worth?

  19. Why don’t I save more money?

  20. Why do I waste and squander so much money?

  21. Why do I put others before myself?

  22. Why am I constantly faced with these questions?

If you are asking yourself one or more of these questions there may be something you may want consider: perhaps you do not believe that taking care of yourself is important.
Maybe you don’t believe that you are worth the effort.

What’s your why? Be honest with yourself. We can’t change what we don’t acknowledge...

Today’s Challenge: Adopt one behavior that will demonstrate your belief that you are important and worthy of the best care.

Now, what’s your plan...What are you willing to do?

Don’t miss your opportunity. Be intentional. Encourage others to do the same and watch what happens.

You got this!
