Thursday's Thoughts

Tavia Robinson

“It’s fine to celebrate success, but it is more important to heed the lessons of failure.”

-Bill Gates

How do the words above resonate with you?

Pause here for a moment and free yourself from distractions:

Take a deep breath in... exhale slowly... deep breath in... exhale slowly... deep breath in... exhale slowly... calm your mind and be present...

Success and failure has been a topic of discussion since the beginning of time.

Most of us would rather succeed than fail. However, the value of failure is undeniable.

Failure: 5 Valuable Lessons: (from wonderlustworker.com)

1. Experience: The first important lesson gained from failure is experience.

2. Knowledge: Failure brings with it important firsthand knowledge.

3. Resilience: Failing in life helps to build resilience.

4. Growth: When we fail, we grow and mature as human beings.

5. Value: One of the biggest lessons that we can learn from life’s failures is the necessity to create and spread an exceedingly high amount of value. In fact, value lies at the heart of success and a lack of value is a fundamental pillar to failure.

Consider these thoughts:

Conscious living depends on the ability to live with a single question at hand: What can I learn from this?
Greet each barrier (or each win) with a bow and an inquiry into what you can learn from it. (Gay Hendricks)
When you focus on the problem, the problem gets bigger.
Are you focusing your energy on the solution or the problem?
Find a solution to a problem and put your focus on it. (Iyanla Vanzant)

“Failure is success if we learn from it.” -Malcolm Forbes

Today’s Challenge: Live with the question: What can I learn from this?

  • Write the question on several sticky notes and post them where they are clearly visible.

  • When you see them throughout the day, recall the most recent event.

  • Take a moment to ask yourself: What can I learn from This?

  • Positive or negative, note what comes to mind.

“Never let success get to your head; never let failure get to your heart.” -Anonymous

How will you approach success or failure differently? What are you willing to do..?

Don’t miss your opportunity. Be intentional. Encourage others to do the same and watch what happens.

You got this!
