Thursday's Thoughts

“Where there is no vision, the people perish.”

-Proverbs 29:18

What’s your vision?

Pause here for a moment and free yourself from distractions:

Take a deep breath in... exhale slowly... deep breath in... exhale slowly... deep breath in... exhale slowly... calm your mind and be present...

Vision is an indispensable quality of leadership.

Vision is quality number 21 in John C Maxwell’s book, The 21 Indispensable Qualities of a Leader.

vision | noun the ability to think about or plan the future with imagination or wisdom.

How have recent circumstances clouded your vision?

...think about it... dig deep...

Leaders, I challenge you to get it back. Don’t give up your vision without a fight. Brighter days are coming:

  • Vision leads the leader

  • Vision paints the target

  • Vision sparks and fuels the fire within

  • Vision is also is the fire lighter for others who follow the leader

Where did your vision come from?

...what drives you... what are your passionate about....

Maxwell reminds us:

1. Vision Starts Within: You can’t buy, beg,or borrow vision. It comes from the inside.

What were you born to do?

...think about it... your special gift

2. Vision Draws on Your History: it’s not some mystical quality that comes out of nowhere. Vision grows from your past and the history of the people around you.

What event in your personal or family history inspired you or made an impact?

...spend some time here...

3. Vision Meets Others’ Needs: True vision is far-reaching. And if it has real value. It does more than just include others; it adds value to them.

How do you add value to others?

...where have you made an impact in service to others...

4. Vision Helps You Gather Resources: It acts like a magnet... attracting, challenging, and uniting people... Vision rallies finances and other resources. The more challenging the vision, the harder the participants fight to achieve it.

On a scale of 1-10, how challenging is your vision?

...think about it... perhaps this is a place to begin reevaluating your vision...

To Find your vision, listen to the voices within:

The Inner Voice:

  • Do you know your life’s mission?

  • What stirs your heart?

  • What do you dream about?

If what you’re pursuing in life doesn’t come from a desire within.. if it isn't part of who you are... what you believe... you won’t be able to accomplish it.

The Unhappy Voice:

  • Where does inspiration for great ideas come from?

  • Are you on complacent cruise control?

No great leader in history has fought to prevent change...

The Successful Voice:

  • Find a mentor... someone you admire, that is ahead of you in the leadership journey..

  • Do you have an advisor who can help you sharpen your vision?

  • Whose on your team?

Nobody can accomplish great things alone.

The Higher Voice:

  • Where are you limiting yourself?

  • Have you looked beyond yourself, beyond your lifetime as you sought your vision?

Don’t allow your vision to be confined to your limited capabilities... Think big push past your limits.

"The future belongs to those who see possibilities before they become obvious.”

-John Sculley

How will you improve your vision?

light a spark... reignite... review... begin again... start TODAY!

Today’s Task: What’s your vision? Write it down!

Writing clarifies your thinking:

  • Put your vision in writing.

  • Evaluate whether it’s worthy of your life’s best

  • pursue it with all you’ve got!

Start TODAY...Let's go!

You owe it to yourself. Don’t miss your opportunity. Be intentional, encourage others to do the same and watch what happens.

You got this!
