Thursday's Thoughts

Coach Tavia

“Doing the best at this moment puts you in the best place for the next moment.” — Oprah Winfrey Read this again... as if the universe is whispering this to you... sit with it for a moment... ...Take a deep breath in...  exhale slowly...  deep breath in...  exhale slowly...  deep breath in...  exhale slowly...  calm your mind and be present...

How does the quote above resonate with you?

Self-discipline  |  noun   the ability to control one's feelings and overcome one's weaknesses; the ability to pursue what one thinks is right despite temptations to abandon it; correction or regulation of oneself for the sake of improvement

Self discipline means self control, which is a sign of inner strength and control of yourself, your actions, and your reactions.

Self discipline gives you the power to stick to your decisions and follow them through, without changing your mind, and is therefore, one of the important requirements for achieving goals.

How disciplined are you?

...think about that for a moment... how do you know... what do you measure...?

Entrepreneur shares 10 Powerful ways to Master Self-Discipline: (by Deep Patel)

1. Know your weaknesses: Too often people try to pretend their vulnerabilities don't exist or cover up any pitfalls in their lives. Own up to your flaws. you can't overcome them until you do.

Ask yourself: What are weaknesses that may distract me from my intended goal?...potato chips... chocolate chip cookies...social media... reality TV... that addictive game app... that friend, you know the one...

2. Remove temptations: "Out of sight out of mind." By simply removing your biggest temptations from your environment, you will greatly improve your self-discipline.

Ask yourself: What do I need to eliminate from my environment to stay focused? ...stop buying junk food... turn off social media notifications... silence the cell phone...

3. Set clear goals and have an execution plan: You must have a clear vision of what you hope to accomplish. And, a clear plan that outlines each step you must take in order to reach your goals. Successful people use this technique to stay on track and establish a clear finish line.

Ask yourself: What am I looking to accomplish? What does success look like? ...what's my end goal... how will I know when I get there...?

4. Build your self-discipline: Like any other skill, self-discipline requires daily practice and repetition. The bigger the temptation or decision, the more challenging it can become. Work on building self-discipline through daily diligence.

Ask yourself: Is this going to get me closer to what I want to accomplish?...or is this a temporary fix i'll regret later....

5. Create new habits by keeping it simple: Break your goal into small doable steps. Focus on doing one thing consistently and master self-discipline with that goal in mind. Take baby steps and when you're ready add more to your list.

Ask yourself: How can a break this down into smaller pieces? Is there a process I can develop and consistently work on each step one-by-one until it's done?

6. Eat often and healthy: Fuel up with healthy snacks and regular meals to keep yourself in check. Research has proven that low blood sugar often weakens a person's resolve, making you grumpy and pessimistic,

Ask yourself: Am I hangry...lol? Is it time to go grocery shopping? ... do I have healthy snacks at work and at home? (Be proactive...don't get caught out there!)

7. Change your perception about willpower: The amount of willpower a person has is determined by their beliefs.. If you remove those subconscious obstacles and truly believe, you will give yourself an extra boost of motivation.

Ask yourself: Is this real or just a self-limiting thought that can easily be turned around? How can I turn these thoughts around and make my goals a reality..?

8. Give yourself a backup plan: Implementation Intention is a plan to deal with a potentially difficult situation you know you will likely face. Going in with a plan will help give you the mindset and self-control necessary for the situation.

Ask yourself: What can I do if __________ happens? What can I say..? How will I respond..? Plan ahead so you don't have to make a sudden in the moment decision based in your emotional state. Relax, you are in control because you will already be prepared...

9. Reward yourself: Anticipation is powerful! Having something to look forward to gives you the motivation to succeed. When you achieve your goal, find a new goal and a new reward to keep yourself moving forward,

Ask yourself: How will I reward myself when I reach this goal? What is a good motivation... something I will be looking forward to..?

10. Forgive yourself and move forward: If you stumble, acknowledge what caused it and move on. Learn from your missteps and forgive yourself. Get your head back in the game and refocus.

Ask yourself: How did this happen? What can I do to avoid this from happening again? ...now let it go... regroup... refocus on your goals...

What's your plan to master self-disciple?

Start today! Be intentional and watch what happens. Share this information with others and encourage them to do the same. Don't miss your opportunity...

You got this!
