“When we self-regulate well, we are better able to control the trajectory of our emotional lives and resulting actions based on our values and sense of purpose.”
-Amy Leigh Mercree
Self-love and self-care are popular topics these days. In my opinion, important areas to not just overlook.
What does self-love mean to you?
Pause here for a moment, take a deep breathe in... exhale slowly... repeat three times... calm your mind and be present...
Self-love, by definition, is:
regard for one's own well-being and happiness (chiefly considered as a desirable rather than narcissistic characteristic).
Why is self-love important?
... before you read more, formulate an answer in your mind... no cheating...
Self-love is important because it is the root of all love. If one doesn't love themselves, they cannot fully give love to others and cannot receive love from others. Self-love is the confidence and belief that one is lovable and can love.

A Seven-Step Prescription for Self-Love:
1. Become mindful- Know what you think, feel, and want and act on that knowledge, rather than on what others want from you.
2. Act on what you need rather than what you want- Stay focused on what you need, turn away from what feels good, exciting, or the automatic behavior patterns that get you into trouble.
3. Practice good self-care- Take better care of your basic needs. Nourish yourself daily through healthy activities, sound nutrition, exercise, proper sleep, intimacy, and social interactions.
4. Set boundaries- set limits, say no to work, love, or activities that deplete or harm you physically, emotionally, and spiritually, or express poorly who you are.
5. Protect yourself- Bring the right people into your life... get rid of the "frenemies' There isn't enough time in your life to waste on people who want to take away the shine on your face.
6. Forgive yourself- Accept your humanness. You are not perfect. Practice being less hard on yourself when you make a mistake.
7. Live Intentionally- Live with purpose and design. Make decisions that support your intention and feel good about yourself when you succeed. Establish your living intentions.
