Monday Madness

Tavia Robinson

“Some of us, for better or worse, develop very stable, consistent, and largely predictable machineries of self. But in others, the self machinery is more flexible and more open to unexpected turns.”

-Antonio Damasio

How do the words above resonate with you?

Pause here for a moment and free yourself from distractions:

Take a deep breath in... exhale slowly... deep breath in... exhale slowly... deep breath in... exhale slowly... calm your mind and be present...

Are you a creature of habit, or a flexible, go with the flow, come what may type of person? Think about that’s for a moment…

Reading Iyanla Vanzant this morning prompted this question:

How prepared are you?

Vanzant provides a perspective to consider: From the book, Until Today: Daily Devotions for Spiritual Growth and Peace of Mind

When we are unexpectedly confronted with a challenge, the brain is the first thing to go…. Try as we may to find our way through the mental Jell-O that was once our brain, the information we need is simply not available at the moment we need it.
Unless we are really solid, sure that we know what we know, we find ourselves in the sinking sand of doubt and fear.

How will you better prepare yourself for the pop quizzes of life?

Take a look at a few suggestions from the article below.

How To Prepare For The Unexpected: Before It Happens:

1. Take A Leap of Faith: Smile and faking it till you make it. Studies have shown that smiling can make you happier. This increased positivity is the beginning of resilience.

2. Try A Different Perspective: If you try to view a difficult experience from a different perspective you will approach your current predicament with an altered, stronger sense of hope and energy.

3. Trust Yourself by Using Your Own Power: Try approaching a challenging situation as if you are the only person in the world who can make it better. Start to create a plan that you can execute over time until you have started to create positive change in your life circumstances.

If anything is possible right now what three things can you do to improve your circumstances? Spend some time with this question...

“Take a limitation and turn it into an opportunity. Take an opportunity and turn it into an adventure by dreaming BIG!”

Trust yourself… Put forth your best effort… Ask for help when you need it!

What are you willing to do?

Don’t miss your opportunity! Be intentional, encourage others to do the same and watch what happens.

You got this!
