“You have the power to take what appears to be bad until it becomes something better!”

-Iyanla Vanzant

How do the words above resonate with you?

Pause here and free yourself from distractions:

Take a deep breath in... exhale slowly... deep breath in... exhale slowly... deep breath in... exhale slowly... calm your mind and be present...

You have the power, if you believe.

What would you like to change? Think about that for a moment...

It is so easy to get caught up in the cycle that the there is nothing we can do about the stuff happening out there. We fall into the habit of believing since I can’t control it I must just accept it and move on.

How can we break the habit of giving away our power? What can you do to hold onto, develop, strengthen what is within..?

Iyanla Vanzant has a different perspective: (from her book, Until Today: Daily Devotions for Spiritual Growth and Peace of Mind)

You can never change what is going on outside of you; however, you can always change what you do in response.
Remind yourself that bad cannot bother you unless you are available.

If your looking to break the cycle and exchange a habit for one that serves you better, take a look at the excerpt below:

How to break bad habits: 3 simple steps: (by Tamara Willner, secondnature.io/us/)

Habits are not set in stone and can be changed with some effort and time.

Step 1: Identify the reward: The key to breaking a bad habit is to identify the reward received by the response to a particular trigger.

What is your reward the behavior?

Step 2: Find an alternative behavior: Once the reward has been identified from the response to the trigger, change the behavior to a better alternative.

What would be a better response to this trigger?

Step 3: Practice: Once the reward has been identified, an alternative behavior is in place, the last step is to practice. Repeating the new habit loop over and over again will eventually lead to this behavior requiring less willpower and becoming automatic.

How can you hold yourself accountable for continued practice until it becomes automatic?

"Keep your thoughts positive because your thoughts become your words. Keep your words positive because your words become your behavior. Keep your behavior positive because your behavior becomes your habits. Keep your habits positive because your habits become your values. Keep your values positive because your values become your destiny."

-Mahatma Gandhi

What are you willing to do?

Don’t miss your opportunity. Be intentional. Encourage others to do the same and watch what happens.

You got this!
