“One of the biggest defects in life is the inability to ask for help.”
-Robert Kiyosaki
How do the words above resonate with you?
Pause here for a moment and free yourself from distractions:
Take a deep breath in... exhale slowly... deep breath in... exhale slowly... deep breath in... exhale slowly... calm your mind and be present...
I believe Kiyosaki’s quote rings true. Humans seem to prefer the struggle over reaching out for help or direction when they really need it. Knowing why we do that will prove to be helpful.
What’s your why? Think about that for a moment.. sit with the question until you come up with an answer...
Examine these reasons why people don’t ask for help found on The Soul Therapist website:
Five Reasons We Don’t Ask For Help. (by Samantha Moultrop, thesoultherapist.com)
1. You are protecting your pride: Perhaps you question your own abilities. You picked up the belief that asking for help is a sign of weakness.
2. Your way is the only way: You feel you need to control everything and everything has to be perfect. You live in a space where you feel everything must be perfect and you do a lot in order to keep the peace.
3. It feels comfortable to stay uncomfortable: All you know is trauma and pain so it can be difficult to trust other people. Even scarier to rely on someone else.
4. You are building your tribe and empowering others: Helping loved ones makes you happy. You find joy in assisting others. You love sharing your ideas and success stories. It makes you feel good. *You might be surprised that that you too feel empowered by receiving guidance and new insights.
5. Worried about what other people think: You are do too much for fear of others thinking you are weak or can’t handle it. You are trying to control the way people see you.
Do any of these ring true for you..?
What’s your hesitation in asking for help when you need it? Think about that for a moment... what stops you..?
Consider these words from Iyanla Vanzant:
We become angry with others when they are not there for us, but we must realize people cannot, will not, and do not know how to help if we do not know how to ask.
We never never really know what a person is willing to do or capable of doing until we ask.
Today’s Affirmation:
If I need support today, I will ask for it.
What kind of help or support do you need right now?
Who will you ask?
Don’t miss your opportunity! Be intentional... Encourage others to do the same and watch what happens.
You got this!
