The key is not to prioritize what’s on your schedule, but to schedule your priorities.” – Stephen Covey How do the words above resonate with you? Pause here for a moment and free yourself from distractions: Take a deep breath in... exhale slowly... deep breath in... exhale slowly... deep breath in... exhale slowly... calm your mind and be present... What’s on your schedule? ...is it a priority.....? Think about it.... priority | noun something that is very important and must be dealt with before other things.
a thing that is regarded as more important than another.
What is most important to you?
...you owe it to yourself to spend some time here...
One of my favorite quotes by Steven R. Covey, author of The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People says; "Most of us spend too much time on what's urgent and not enough time on what's important." As life continues moves forward, COVID-19, has made made many of us reevaluate that. Lot's has changed: how we view time.... our values... relationships... careers... needs... wants...
How have your priorities changed?
...is it time to shuffle that list... think about it...
5 Steps to Set Your Priorities Straight ((by Maria Brilaki)
1. What is really important to you?
-Make a list. Write down the things that are truly important to you, the things that ten years from now will make you proud. Don't worry about whether its feasible, just write what's important. -Keep in mind if you write down 10 things or more you are probably mixing up the urgent with important.
urgent | adjective requiring immediate action or attention
important | adjective of great significance or value; likely to have a profound effect on success, survival, or well-being
I love the saying, "lack or preparation on your part does not constitute emergency on mine." LOL.. can't wait to say that to some one and mean it. It feels good!
2. Write down the things you do everyday:
Make another list. Example: wake-up, eat breakfast, go to work, a typical day... -Now, highlight the things you do daily that are in line with what’s important, (The list from #1 above)
3. Cut down the urgent stuff and clear out the clutter: The highlighted stuff in #2 is whats important that you do daily, everything else is urgent.
-Some urgent stuff will just need to go,
-some may need to be delegated,
-others things perhaps could be better organized
Some more space may now be opening up....
4. Run a test week:
Test out the changes and see if it works. Perhaps you should not have delegated some things or maybe you noticed something else you could delegate or better organize. Make the needed adjustments. It may take a couple of weeks but its well worth it.
5. Put in your life more of the important stuff:
Go back to step 1. What is it you want... health... love? Put in your schedule activities that match your priorities,
-Put in what is absolutely feasible no matter how small or imperfect it seems. Change is a gradual process and that's okay. Be patient with yourself.
How will you set your priorities in order?
...What steps will you take...
.
“It’s not enough to be busy; so are the ants. The question is: what are we busy about?” ~Henry David Thoreau
Don't miss your opportunity. Be intentional, encourage other to do the same and watch what happens!
You got this!
