Meaningful Monday

Coach Tavia

“In every crisis there is a message. Crises are nature’s way of forcing change — breaking down old structures, shaking loose negative habits so that something new and better can take their place.”

-Susan L. Taylor

How does the quote above resonate with you?

Pause here and free yourself from distractions:

...Take a deep breath in exhale slowly... deep breath in... exhale slowly... deep breath in... exhale slowly... calm your mind and be present...

Reread Taylor’s quote:

What’s the opportunity here for you as we're asked to self quarantine?

What negative habits do you need to stop?

What does better look like for you?

Think about that for a moment... spend some time with those questions...

In an article on HUFFPOST.com, Karen M Wyatt, MD shares how one can handle any crisis.

5 Ways to Shift Your Mindset: With G. R. A. C. E.

1. Gratitude: Find some time each day looking for reasons to be grateful, no matter how thin or fragile they might be. There is goodness somewhere, somehow, in everything. Hold onto it.

2. Release Your Expectations: Let go of the things you can not control. The more you are attached to the things that can no longer happen, the more your suffering intensifies. When you give up your expectations you are making space for something new that is yet to come.

3. Awareness in the Present Moment: Resist the urge to numb yourself or "Check out" so you won't have to deal with emotions that may arise. Try to keep your focus on what's happening right here, right now. Creativity, love, and healing exist only in the present moment and your thoughts and energy need to be focused on the present in order to receive the benefits of those forces.

4. Compassion for Yourself and Others: Cultivate compassion on a daily basis. Dark times can often cloud your ability to recognize love and you might even feel it has disappeared from your world. Try this: Sit quietly for a few minutes and imagine that you are breathing in love for yourself until you are filled with positive energy. Then breathe out love for those around you who are suffering, for all living beings, the entire planet, and the entire universe. By practicing this each day you will gradually increase your capacity to recognize love and share it in everything you do.

5. Equanimity: a noun meaning mental calmness, composure, and evenness of temper, especially in a difficult situation. To survive a crisis you will need to strengthen your ability to find balance and peace even in the middle of a raging storm. Try this exercise: Focus your attention within and imagine yourself floating on a raft in perfectly still water. Keep taking slow deep breaths as you watch the storms that are raging around you dissipate. The more you practice connecting with your still center, the more you will be able to discover equanimity when a crisis occurs.

Don’t miss your opportunity...

How will you shift your mindset and become a better you?

...consider letting G.R.A.C.E guide you through...

Be intentional, encourage other to do the same and watch what happens.
