Are you good enough? Think about that for a moment...
We want to be happy, we want those we love to happy. When when people we interact with share a problem, we want to solve it. Most times the person is not asking for help, just venting, and we exert unnecessary energy and time getting upset when our unsolicited advice is ignored. Gay Hendricks posses this question to reflect on:
What would happen if you let go of your “fix it” mentality for a little while?
If you listened generously to others, you would not approach others as problems to be fixed, but as open spaces of creative possibility.
Today’s Challenge: Listen Differently (from Hendricks, Gay; A year of Living Consciously)
As you interact with people today do unfiltered listening.
Listen to people purely. As if you had no agenda other than to appreciate what they say.
Perhaps then you would create a world in which much less needed to be fixed.
Free yourself this Friday. Just listen... Not everything is your job to fix.
