Freedom Friday

Coach Tavia

“The mind is its own place, and in itself can make a heaven of hell, a hell of heaven.”  -John Milton

How do the words above resonate with you?

Pause here for a moment and free yourself from distractions:

Take a deep breath in...  exhale slowly...  deep breath in...  exhale slowly...  deep breath in...  exhale slowly...  calm your mind and be present...

Ever wake up and think to yourself, “this must be what hell feels like?”  ( Tell the truth... in the past 5 months, and counting, I’ve had my moments...)

Or, maybe you’ve been lucky enough to meet someone special, the one you’ve been waiting for and life feels more like heaven.

Milton’s quote above illustrates the power of ones mind and is a reminder that *happiness is an inside game, literally and neurochemically.

*There has been extensive research and studies done on the brain that supports the fact that humans live primarily in survival or fight or flight mode which equates to constant distress and anxiety.  This is a function of the left brain.

*The good news is that if we learn to activate the portion of our brain that controls the Empathy Circuitry, a right brain function, we could lead a much happier existence.

Heaven or hell, which do you prefer?

HHhhhmmmm... think about it... your choice...

What makes you happy?

Visualize it... What does that look like..?

The brain like any other muscles requires training and continued practice to strengthen and remain fit.

How will you strengthen your brain muscles?

What are you willing to do..?

Today’s Challenge:  The Power of Presence

*The next time you hug someone you love,.. (child, friend, significant other)

  • can you be fully present for ten seconds?

  • Can you be so present that you actually feel their breathing or heartbeat?

  • Can you feel yourself in your body, feel your feet on the ground, and feel your breathing rather than being lost in the chatter of your mind?

  • When you speak to them, can you see the pupils, colors, and sparkle of their eyes?

“One minute of being fully present with a loved one has a deeper and not lasting impact on your relationship than spending a whole day together while you have a scattered mind.”  -Shirzad Chamine

Be present, be happy, let someone know they're loved... all while giving your brain a workout.

Don’t miss your opportunity!  Be intentional, encourage others to do the same and watch what happens.

You got this!
