Freedom Friday

Coach Tavia

“Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? Since you cannot do this very thing, why do you worry about the rest?”

-Luke 12:25-26

How do the words above resonate with you?

Pause here for a moment and free yourself from distractions:

Take a deep breath in... exhale slowly... deep breath in... exhale slowly... deep breath in... exhale slowly... calm your mind and be present...

Worry...worrying... what is it anyway?

worry | verb give way to anxiety or unease; allow one's mind to dwell on difficulty or troubles.

.Some say worry is noise created in your mind because it couldn’t figure out a better technology.

What things are you worrying about?

...think about it and be honest with yourself....

On a scale of 1-10, how helpful has worrying been for you?

...Hhhuummm... what purpose is it serving...?

One could argue, worrying keeps you from having to take action. Think about that breathe and let it sink in...

When you find yourself worrying ask yourself:

  • Is it a real possibility?

  • Is there any action I can take right now to make a positive difference?

*If you can’t say YES to both of those questions, shift your mind immediately:

  • Acknowledge whatever you are feeling and express those feelings when necessary

  • Take action if possible

  • Welcome the next feeling that emerges

“Worry never robs tomorrow of its sorrow, it only saps today of its joy."

To sum it up in a word, the opposite of worry is “mindfulness.”

mindfulness | noun a mental state achieved by focusing on the present moment, while calmly acknowledging and accepting one's feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations, used as a therapeutic technique.

This May Day, I challenge you to leave your worries behind.... (LOL..The Groove Live -Heatwave just popped into my head... now I'm going to be singing that song all day)

Today's Challenge: Be mindful and exchange worries for wonders:

Instead of worrying, begin with a wonder question that asks something you genuinely don’t know the answer to. Here are a few examples:

  • Worried about money: “I wonder... how I can always have enough money to do all the things I want to do..?”

  • Worried about being single: "I wonder where my future husband/wife and I will go on our honeymoon?

  • Worried about work: "I wonder how many people I will be able to help when I get back to work"

See how many “Wonder Questions” you can generate by the end of day and notice how much lighter you feel. Have fun with it, It's Friday.

Leave your worries behind! Be intentional, encourage others to do the same and watch what happens.

You got this!
