Freedom Friday

Tavia Robinson

"Lots of people want to ride with you in the limo, but what you want is someone who will take the bus with you when the limo breaks down."

-Oprah Winfrey

How do the words above resonate with you?

Pause here for a moment and free yourself from distractions:

Take a deep breath in... exhale slowly... deep breath in... exhale slowly... deep breath in... exhale slowly... calm your mind and be present...

What does friendship mean to you? In your own words, how would you articulate friendship..?

friendship /noun/

  • A state of enduring affection, esteem, intimacy, and trust between two people.

Are you a good friend... how do you know? Think about that for a moment...

Reading Iyanla Vanzant this morning gave me something to think about. Vanzant's perspective on friends and friendship is a powerful one to consider:

Sometimes the people we care about the most are the people we treat badly.
We don’t mean to or want to. At times we just don’t think. Other times we do it because we know we can get away with it.
We must learn to value and honor those blessings we call friends; they are few and far between.
They come to share a part of life with us. How we treat them is a reflection of our thoughts about life.
When we tax our friendships with abuse, neglect, or mindless actions, we shut ourselves off from the support that makes life easier to bear.
When we fail to nurture our friendships, it is a sign that we do not nurture ourselves.
When we treat our friends with kindness and respect, they are obliged to do the same.
When we hold our friendships in high regard, we learn to feel good about ourselves.
When we value our friends and the relationship, they know it, and they will do their best to keep things in balance.

How do you cultivate rich friendships? Spend some time reflection on this question...

What are you willing to do?

Don’t miss your opportunity! Be intentional, encourage others to do the same and watch what happens.

You got this!
