“Do not judge me by my successes, judge me by how many times I fell down and got back up again.”
-Nelson Mandela
How do the words above resonate with you?
Pause here for a moment and free yourself from distractions:
Take a deep breath in... exhale slowly... deep breath in... exhale slowly... deep breath in... exhale slowly... calm your mind and be present...
What do you do when you stumble and fall? Think about that for a moment...
I hope the response is, "I get up." And in most cases i believe that is the truth. But what about after we fall down the second time? How about the third time? Now, be honest with yourself. what happens when you fall the fourth, fifth, sixth, or tenth time?
Iyanla Vanzant poses some questions: from her book, Acts of Faith
Isn’t it funny that those of us who know how to walk are always afraid to fall?
How did we lose that fierce tenacity to make it no matter what?
Reading Vanzant's Acts of Faith this morning offered an unexpected lesson I am compelled to share. Lessons from a Toddler...
Toddlers seem to know it’s okay to fall.
How do you handle failure...?
They are always willing to roll over, get up, and try again.
When things get you down what can you do?
A toddler who stumbles doesn’t always fall. Stumbling actually actually moves them ahead faster.
How can you leverage this to your benefit?
Toddlers will grab anyone or anything until they get their balance. When they do, they let go and move on.
What do you need to let go of?
They don’t seem to care how awkward they look, whether or not people laugh at them, or how many times they fall. They do it over and over until they get it right.
Today’s Affirmation:
I Am willing to do whatever it takes.
How do you compare with a toddler learning to walk?
“Everyone falls down. Getting back up is how you learn how to walk.”
-Walt Disney
What are you willing to do?
Don’t miss your opportunity! Be intentional, encourage others to do the same and watch what happens.
You got this!
